The Guaymas - San Carlos destiny is placed 75 miles away from Hermosillo, the Capital of Sonora, and 242 miles from the United States' border; by its characteristics is considered the principal tourist center of the State.

It has privileged natural attractions, impressive landscapes formed by an exceptional combination of desert, sea and mountain. This tourist destiny offers to the visitor all the necessary for a pleasant stay, diverse options of accommodations, delicious alternatives of nourishment and exciting sports activities, besides history, beautiful beaches, a blue and pleasant sea, and the prettiest sunsets.

Signs of Splendour

Participating in cultural tourism means journeying into Historic Downtown area of Guaymas. This area transports us to the past such as places like San Fernando Church, constructed in the early decades of the nineteenth century, the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Temple, 13 de Julio Plaza with its Arabic-style kiosk, Tres Presidentes Plaza which had built in memory of three Mexican Presidents who came from Guaymas: Plutarco Elías Calles, Adolfo de la Huerta and Abelardo L. Rodríguez, the Municipal Palace, constructed in 1899, Pescador Plaza with its impressive statue, an important symbol of the port, the Sonora Bank in a Neoclassical style, and the Old Public Jail from 1900.

The menus of the restaurants in Guaymas-San Carlos offer a variety of typical food of the Mexican kitchen, pasta and Italian food, delicious meats grilled with the mesquite style, bbq ribs, roasted pig, seafood cocktails and succulent Sonoran recipes that include fish soup and seafood dishes. The decoration and atmosphere is casual and the dressing code for the majority of the restaurants is informal - relax and enjoy this experience of eating.

Sport Fishing

Summer is a great time to practice this activity in San Carlos, where the main sport is fishing in which you can easily catch: Sailfish, Dolphin, Marlin, Skijack, Yellow Tuna, Sierra and the impressive marlin.

There’s another kind of fishing during this season, but its normally a winter activity, you can catch fishes as: cabrilla, pinto bass, white fish and specially yellowtail, and the snapper is well known for its special large size due to the fact that it can easily reach the 40 pounds.

San Carlos is definitely the best place in the state to go fishing , with calm water, comfortable temperature, and great boat rental fees and the best attraction is that more than 800 sea species put this place as the second world leader.


• Los Algodones
Knowing the fact that its name originates for the delicate texture of its dunes of white sand that make alike cottons balls, it gives us the idea of its level of attraction. The diving, sail boat, windsurfing and many activities more, are endorsed by great class services offered in the zone.

The average temperature varies from 31C in the spring to 18C in the winter. The vegetation that surrounds the beach is principally desert and stand out cactáceas, sahuaros and small bushes. Its fauna is composed by aquatic birds and small ornamental birds. In vacational seasons like Holy Week and summer this beach is ideal to practice sports. Along the beach you can appreciate attractive hotels and residential developments.

• San Francisco
One of the more crowded and extensive of the zone; its soft waves are perfect for all the family, boat trips, snorkel and kayaks. Adjacent hotels offer services of proven quality.

• Piedras Pintas
The absence of tourist infrastructure make it very attractive for those that seek to escape to the adventure, especially for those who enjoy to practice diving and snorkelling.
