Ecotourism has been developing more and more over the last 15 years. Years ago, ecotourism was such a new concept that it was hard to define or understand. At the beginning, ecotourism was driven by a passion for the environment. Later, people started realizing an emerging business opportunity in the travel industry.

The most important thing to understand is that tourism and conservation go together in this new green revolution to save the world. Choose to travel different – think eco - and you will be surprised to discover all the advantages while helping the next generation. In every corner of the world, we can find a nature-based experience.

Before you choose your next travel destination, let me define some of the ways to follow the green revolution:

Ecotourism: "Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people." (TIES, 1990)

Adventure Travel: The main interest will be the focus on sports and activities including some degree of risk. You can classify your adventure as soft or hard, choosing your comfort in accommodations, transportation and physical challenge.

Multi-Sport Adventures: You will participate in different outdoor activities. Usually all the activities are included in these packages like surfing, kayaking, rafting, snorkeling, whale watching, etc. You can choose the company that operates these activities and decide if they are also protecting the areas where you are traveling, helping the local communities and following conservation principles.

Sustainable Tourism: Travel respecting the local communities without reducing the local resources. Usually this means travelers in low numbers and not disturbing the natural ambience and environment.

Responsible Tourism: Respect, understand and support the cultures and people in the area that you are visiting.

Nature-Based Tourism: Travelers focusing on nature usually also follow sustainable thoughts.

Definitions are debatable. What is not debatable is the need of traveling responsibly, following your ethics and principles to help to conserve our environment that is falling apart. In summary an eco-tourist values the local culture, helps the local economy, cares for the environment, preserves the places he visits, and - most important - has fun.

Eco-tourism in Cabo
Los Cabos is filled with many Eco-adventure opportunities, and many local tour companies offer a wide selection of activities including:

•Snorkeling and diving in Baja California Sur´s pristine waters, where you´ll be able to encounter everything from small fish and corals to eels, manta rays, whale sharks, gray whales, and much more.

•Kayak to some of Baja Sur´s most protected bays and discover some of its amazing secluded beaches only accessible by water.

•Hike though the desert mountains, visit remote villages, or discover the refreshing waterfalls at Santiago.

•Surf some of the best waves without having to use a wetsuit.

•Participate in one of nature’s most amazing events by releasing your very own adopted new born turtle into the ocean.

Los Cabos is an inspiration for any nature lover given its natural diversity. Its unique contrast of desert and ocean definitely makes it a site to visit.
